Description
From Harlem’s hottest jazz clubs to the Folies Bergère in Paris, legendary chanteuse and entertainer Josephine Baker, “The Bronze Goddess”, made a sensational impact with her creative, sensual style and dynamic, ground-breaking performances.
Harlem Design Co’s original illustrations on the cover and inside the journal highlight inspiring details from her extraordinary life. Included are Josephine in her iconic banana skirt from her infamous danse sauvage, an illustration of her beloved pet cheetah, Chiquita, and, in an exciting discovery, the original sheet music from her song J’ai Deux Amours, where it has been revealed she hid secret information when she travelled throughout Europe performing while also working as an anti-Nazi spy for the French Resistance during World War II. This among many brave acts, netted her France's highest military awards, the Legion of Honour and the Resistance Medal.
Hand-bound with exceptional attention to craftsmanship, the cover is made of soft vegan leather with distinctive gold foil detailing, and comes in two color selections: Cream/Gold and Red/Gold. Each journal features our own original illustrations, 300 lined pages with elegant gilded edges, a crimson satin ribbon bookmark and elastic book closure.
